Merging PDFs — common questions
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
As many as your browser can keep in memory — typically 50+ files of normal size. There is no server-side cap because the merge happens locally. Heavy scanned PDFs use more RAM than text PDFs, so very large batches may slow on older hardware.
Can I reorder pages between two PDFs before merging?
Yes. After dropping files in, every page becomes a draggable thumbnail in a single timeline. You can interleave pages from different documents (e.g. front matter from one file, body from another) before clicking "Merge". You can also delete or rotate individual pages mid-merge.
Are bookmarks, hyperlinks, and form fields kept?
Yes. PDF Pro uses pdf-lib to stitch documents at the object level, so internal hyperlinks, bookmarks/outlines, and AcroForm fields are preserved. External links remain functional in the merged file.
Is the original page quality kept?
Pages are copied byte-for-byte from each source PDF. There's no re-rendering, no rasterization, and no compression unless you opt in afterward. Image quality, fonts, and vector graphics are identical to the originals.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
You can — but you'll need to unlock them first. Drop a protected file in and PDF Pro prompts you for the password locally; the unlocked copy is held in memory for the merge and discarded when you close the tab. Passwords are never sent anywhere.
Will the merged file be huge?
Roughly the sum of the inputs minus overlapping resources (shared fonts, common images). For very large outputs, send the merged PDF straight to the Compress tool to shrink it without uploading.
Can I save the merge order so I don't repeat it next time?
Recent file order is remembered per-browser via local storage, so reopening the same files restores your last layout. We don't keep a server-side history because the files never reach our servers.
One combined PDF. Zero friction.
